Hi, and welcome.  I'm Myf Webster and my business GiraffeGlass has evolved over many years.  In fact I guess I was born into it - my Mum is a cabinet maker, my Dad an amateur artist, and my brother a photographer - so perhaps it was inevitable.  From as early as I can remember, I have always dabbled in things creative. I was introduced to a sewing machine and a potters wheel before I was 10, and went on to produce my own clothes and home decor for many years.  In 1998, by chance, I discovered fused and slumped glass and have been hooked ever since.  After attending glass courses and then purchasing a kiln, my exploration into the world of glass began.

The plates and platters were where it started, the jewellery then evolved, and finally the art - each one offering a new outlet for my creativity. Glass is such an amazing medium, the eagerness of opening the kiln after each firing has never left me nor dimished in any way over the years.  Such amazing results constantly stun me - there is no other material that has the same qualities or clarity of colour or uniqueness.  

What is fused glass?  Well it is layers of glass which are melted together using a kiln which is a specialized type of oven. Many techniques can be used to alter the glass and the process can last anywhere from 6 to 24 hours! At the peak temperature (usually around 850C degrees!) the glass is molten red, and the cooling process critical to the outcome.  The key, though, apart from the glass is the combination of colours that are used in the finished piece.
